The game’s environment, a mix of live action and 3D animation, was built in a unique way. The makers aimed for an ingenious design, which allowed them to make spectacular camera movements and to film the children running around in the virtual decor in a very dynamic way.
For the scenes in the virtual world of the computer game, the actors moved on a rotating treadmill that was placed in front of a green background, a ‘green key’. This way, the whole set was moving instead of the camera. Such a structure has never been used before a Belgian film production.
The post-production of this film is much more complex than for most Belgian films. Numerous designs, moodboards and concept drawings were made during pre-production. Then 3D models were derived from these concepts, eventually resulting in the final decors.
Also the specific set up in the studio was meticulously prepared. At first stage, the whole system was virtually tested and a computer simulation as produced which determined how the real system in the studio looked like.
